"Oh my god. You broke up with Pete?"
"Yeah."
"But he was so lovely."
"Hmm, everyone liked Pete. Just sometimes I wish people would tell me I deserved better."
"If he didn't make you happy, then of course you did."

..I feel as though I should stop being so pietistic and start listening to my own advice.
