The Beetles asked a famous question once: Where do all the lonely people come from?
Lonely people appear on public holidays. Festivities such as Christmas and New Year's Day.
They're the ones spending the day alone. Trying to work to inundate any pain that was left from the year before.
On New Year's Eve we can drown out any troubles we had with the presence of alcohol. We swear to make New Year's resolutions. We promise to keep them.
Next year New Year's will, as a matter of course, be the same.
..I do like the concept of a fresh start, though.
